Integrating Tobacco and Vaping Cessation Into Your Physical Therapy Career

Abstract: This presentation focuses on the critical role physical therapists and physical therapist assistants have in assisting or initiating a person’s journey toward improved health through tobacco cessation. The course will also identify opportunity, accessibility, and obligation allied health professionals have to assist our clients to create positive health outcomes.

Speaker: Tammy Ranney, PT
Speaker Information:

Tammy Ranney, PT is currently the Director of Therapy Services with Care Connections at Home and Coastal Breeze Home Health in Sarasota, FL. Ms. Ranney is a physical therapist with 28 years of experience, specializing in amputee care and rehabilitation. Ms. Ranney received her physical therapy degree from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts and served as a combat medic and physical therapist in the US Army. During her military service, she was assigned to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for two years before being deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan for an additional two years. In addition, Ms. Ranney has extensive experience in skilled nursing facilities, in-patient rehab facilities, out-patient clinics, and home health.

3. Review current epidemiology of tobacco use and current trends in various populations.

4. Identify opportunities to address and implement tobacco cessation in practice
